They showed us pictures and told us what we should and should not do if our house is on fire. We learned about getting out of our house safely and meeting our family at our safe place, usually our letterbox. The firefighters got us to practice getting down on the floor when we heard the smoke alarm go off. We crawled under the 'smoke' (a black sheet) and out the door. If there is a fire, we know to call 111 and tell the operator that there is a fire and then tell them our address.
After that, we got to go and see the fire engine! We all loved seeing the fire fighter's equipment. One of us even got to try on the fire fighting clothing, boots and helmet!
We all really enjoyed getting to meet real firefighters, see the fire engine and learn about how to be safe in a fire. Now we are going home with our fire safety booklets to practice these safety skills with our family.
Thanks, Taupo Fire Station for providing this great education for our Tamariki!
