Room 4 Rangoli

We have been finding out about celebrations in India. We discovered that their New Year is at a different time to ours.

It is held in late October to early November. The people of India do special things each day during this time. One of the activities is making Rangoli, so we decided to try it.

Rangoli is a pattern made from coloured rice or salt.

  1. Step 1. Use food colouring and vinegar to colour the uncooked rice and leave to dry.
  2. Step 2. Draw your design using white for the outline as this represents good instead of evil and light instead of dark.
  3. Step 3. Cover the inside of each shape with glue and sprinkle the rice on.

Our wonderful rangoli are on display in the hall, come and have a look, we are very proud of them.
