Tracks - Making a Mark

Room 8’s track making is apart of our Ohaaki team “Making A Mark” inquiry using hands-on experiences to build fine motor skills.

The students planned, designed and modified their tracks so that they met the design brief of having bridges, jumps, trees, tunnels, tracks, bends, and a water feature.

Then students started to make their track with playdough, cardboard and glue. Tautari made all the dough for room 8 to use and he also put green and blue food colouring in two batches of dough so we could have green for trees and blue for water features.

After creating our tracks we painted them as if they were real. We added brown for the dirt tracks and different colours for the bridges and green for the grass.

After finishing them all we evaluated them against our own plan and compared them to what we had made.

Jay said, I put a two sharks in the water feature and I tried to make a bridge and a tunnel.

Zavier said, it was really fun to make our tracks because I got to work with other people and we were able to be practice working together.

Imogen said,  I enjoyed it because I was working with my friends and we put lots of colour on our tracks and we used playdough. It looked colourful and we met the success criteria.

During the process of making a track at school, Jack went home and created a Minecraft model of a track and surrounding village on his iPad.
