We brainstormed about what winter meant to us, and then choose one idea to write a poem about. Some of the ideas chosen were; rugby, frost, snow, mud, puddles, soccer, hot chocolate.
Mrs Thompson showed us some examples of cinquain poems. We learned about how they use a few carefully chosen words to create a picture in the reader’s mind. They always follow the same pattern; noun, two adjectives, three verbs, a phrase, then another noun.
We all had a go at following the pattern and choosing our words carefully to create a picture in the minds of the people who read our poems.
We also learned about the writing process, planning, drafting, editing and publishing our poems with illustrations. Mrs Thompson made a cover and bound them into a book for our class library. Pop into Room 13 if you would like to read the book.
