Pirorirori, 2025 Term Three

Learning

The teaching team for Pirorirori remains as Caitlin Bone, Leanne Jackson, Divya Singh and Codie Robinson. Tracey Venter, a new Deputy Principal, is joining as Team Leader.

The aim is to provide students with the opportunity to make their mark by being creative and achieve success. Students will begin to understand how people can leave a long-lasting impression on someone, a place or a time. Through the inquiry 'Making a Mark', learning will be integrated across the curriculum in order to strengthen student understanding while applying skills within a variety of contexts.

Aotearoa New Zealand Histories

Students will explore how Māori used art and symbols to tell stories and record history. Students will listen to local Tūwharetoa iwi stories and make connections to the whenua. They will use art, share stories, and take part in class discussions that reflect local Tūwharetoa iwi stories.

Mathematics: Geometry and Algebra

Students are diving into Geometry in order to identify and describe 2D and 3D shapes in artwork and natural formations. Connections will also be made within Algebra by creating and continuing patterns using symbols, marks, and natural and man-made materials.

English

Students will explore how symbols and images communicate meaning in art, signage, and everyday environments. They will write captions, labels, and simple explanations to accompany their creative work and share their ideas with others.

The students will continue their structured literacy journey by learning how the sounds within words (phonemes) match the letters and letter patterns (graphemes) that represent them.

The Arts

Students will investigate the elements of line, shape, and texture by experimenting with a range of tools and materials to make meaningful marks. As part of this learning, connections will be made to local Tūwharetoa traditions through the exploration of carving, weaving, and kowhaiwhai patterns.

Keeping Ourselves Safe

Students are taking part in the Keeping Ourselves Safe Programme. This will teach them a variety of safe practices to use when they are interacting with others, both online and in person.

More information on the programme can be found on the New Zealand Police website.
